Bitcoin Legend Michael Saylor Defends "Never Sell" Mantra, Confirms He Hasn't Sold a Single Satoshi

Strategy Chairman Michael Saylor has defended his long-standing "never sell Bitcoin" mantra, clarifying on Monday that his personal investment philosophy differs from the corporate treasury management of Strategy. He shared on the X platform: "When I say 'never sell Bitcoin,' it's a piece of wisdom shared among savers. I have never sold any of my Bitcoin holdings, not even one satoshi." (Note: A satoshi is the smallest unit of Bitcoin, equivalent to one hundred millionth of a Bitcoin.)

Saylor noted that Strategy, as a publicly listed company, has disclosed since 2020 that it may buy or sell Bitcoin based on capital management needs. He added: "Our collective unwavering belief in Bitcoin remains unchanged." Prior to this, Strategy CEO Phong Le reiterated that the company's goal is not simply to hold Bitcoin, but to continuously increase Bitcoin holdings per share. He emphasized that since investing in Bitcoin in August 2020, Strategy's stock performance has outperformed Bitcoin itself over any four-year holding period.

Mixed Reactions from the Crypto Community

This clarification by Saylor has sparked polarized reactions within the cryptocurrency community. Trader Crypto Patel noted that holding positions during volatile market swings is far more challenging than just talking about it, adding that long-term consistency is key. Crypto analyst Elja suggested that Saylor's conviction will inevitably face scrutiny from all sides before it pays off. Another trader, Quinten, believes the market can generally distinguish between Saylor's personal holdings and Strategy's corporate treasury, but warned that selling Bitcoin could undermine the company's own positioning. "I believe everyone understands this," Quinten wrote, "but your personal brand is entirely built on the core narrative of continuous Bitcoin accumulation."
