Perfect Optronics Limited (Perfect Optronics, 08311) reported interim results for the six months ended 30 June 2026.
Revenue and Profitability • Revenue rose 2.05% year on year to HK$50.53 million, driven by a 14% rebound in thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal-display (TFT-LCD) panels and modules to HK$42.17 million. • Gross profit declined 14.79% to HK$7.66 million as the product mix shifted away from higher-margin health-related items. Gross margin contracted to 15.2%, down from 18.2% a year earlier. • Loss attributable to equity holders narrowed to HK$11.01 million (HK0.74 cent per share) from HK$12.62 million (HK0.85 cent) in 1H25, supported by a smaller fair-value loss on listed equity investments.
Investment Impact • Fair-value loss on the Group’s stake in Mobvoi Inc. (classified as FVTPL) fell to HK$4.34 million (1H25: HK$7.06 million), tempering the overall deficit. • The Mobvoi holding stood at 17.70 million shares, valued at HK$5.58 million on 30 June 2026, versus HK$9.91 million at end-2025.
Operating Expenses and Cash Flow • Distribution and selling expenses were stable at HK$4.32 million. • General and administrative expenses slipped 5% to HK$10.18 million after cost-cutting in travel and staff. • Net cash used in operations totalled HK$5.06 million (1H25: HK$8.42 million). Cash and cash equivalents fell to HK$12.94 million from HK$18.24 million at end-2025. • Net current assets stood at HK$15.15 million, down from HK$26.83 million six months earlier. The gearing ratio increased to 14.1% (31 Dec 2025: 10.1%) on bank borrowings of HK$2.68 million.
Segment Highlights • Health-related products revenue dropped 30.72% to HK$5.15 million due to normalising demand for test kits and hygiene items. • Electronic signage sales fell 33.24% to HK$2.20 million amid product life-cycle changes. • Optics products recorded no sales in the period.
Going-Concern Consideration Management acknowledges a material uncertainty over going concern in light of recurring losses and reduced liquidity. Mitigating plans include disposing of the remaining Mobvoi shares, tightening cost controls, curbing capital expenditure and driving sales growth.
No Dividend The Board declared no interim dividend for 1H26.
Board and Governance Updates Three directors, including former chairman and CEO Mr Cheng Wai Tak, remain suspended pending the outcome of an ongoing Securities and Futures Commission petition filed in 2019. Independent non-executive director Mr Kan Man Wai continues as acting chairman.
Outlook Management expects a challenging second half amid macroeconomic headwinds and competitive pressures. Strategic focus will remain on core display products, cost containment and selective diversification into health-related goods and emerging opportunities such as electric-vehicle charging solutions.
