Customs officers at the Ruili port, under the Kunming Customs district, intercepted a shipment of imported goods that concealed dried snake products, totaling 411.6 kilograms.

During routine inspection of a consignment declared as "smoked charcoal," officers detected an unusual odor emanating from the cargo. A closer examination revealed 16 unregistered woven bags hidden beneath the truck bed, containing 2,380 dried snakes weighing 410 kilograms, along with 1,795 dried snake penises and gallbladders weighing 1.6 kilograms.

Identification confirmed the seized items as Indian cobra specimens from the Viperidae family, listed under the "Three-Protected Animals" registry, which covers terrestrial wildlife species that are beneficial or hold significant economic and scientific value under national protection. The case has been transferred to anti-smuggling authorities for further action.

Customs officials issued a reminder that, under the Customs Law of the People's Republic of China and relevant regulations on administrative penalties, any attempt to evade customs supervision through concealment, disguise, under-declaration, or false declaration when transporting, carrying, or mailing prohibited or restricted goods across borders constitutes smuggling. Severe cases that rise to criminal levels will result in criminal liability under the law.
