Bluepeak Leverages Harmonic Technology to Accelerate Fiber Rollout and Enter Multi-Dwelling Unit Segment

Internet service provider Bluepeak announced today that it will adopt Harmonic's cOS virtualized broadband platform, Pearl remote OLT, and SeaStar optical nodes to drive its fiber network expansion and effectively enter the multi-dwelling unit (MDU) market.

Under the agreement, Harmonic's cloud-native platform will enable Bluepeak to scale its passive optical network (PON) services at a flexible pace while maximizing the value of its existing infrastructure. Eric Fligel, Vice President of Technology, Engineering, and Operations at Bluepeak, stated that this move aims to help more communities gain access to fast, reliable internet, creating new opportunities for residents and businesses.

For low-density MDU environments, which have historically been costly to serve, Bluepeak will utilize Harmonic's SeaStar optical nodes. This solution avoids disruptive in-building rewiring by reusing existing coaxial cable, providing a more cost-effective method to extend fiber-grade multi-gigabit broadband connectivity to such "brownfield" MDU sites. Jeffrey Glahn, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Harmonic, noted that this approach prevents unnecessary overbuilding and reduces construction disruption within communities.

Furthermore, Harmonic's Central AI network intelligence tool will provide Bluepeak with real-time network visibility, helping it proactively optimize user experience. Bluepeak currently provides services to over 500,000 homes and businesses across several Midwestern states in the U.S.
