On May 10, the main construction work for Unit 4 of the China General Nuclear Power Group's (CGN) Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Project officially began, marking the full launch of the project's second phase.

It is estimated that upon completion, Unit 4 will generate over 9 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, sufficient to meet the yearly production and living electricity demands of approximately one million people.

The Guangdong Taipingling Nuclear Power Project is the first nuclear power initiative in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to utilize China's independently developed third-generation nuclear power technology, "Hualong One." The project plans to construct six "Hualong One" nuclear power units in three phases, with four units currently approved.

Unit 1 of the project commenced power generation on April 20, 2026. Unit 2 completed its initial nuclear fuel loading on May 3, 2026. The main construction for Unit 3 began on June 10, 2025, and has now entered its peak civil construction period.

Since the initiation of the Taipingling Nuclear Power Phase II project, the project team has comprehensively implemented a construction approach emphasizing "modularization, mechanization, automation, digitalization and intelligence, and inherent safety," with over 700 improvement measures already implemented.

Furthermore, several new technologies, including optimized integrated door frame construction schemes and optimized construction organization for the nuclear island raft foundation, have been applied for the first time in CGN's nuclear power projects. These applications have accumulated valuable experience for the batch construction of the "Hualong One" technology.
