East Money Information Co.,Ltd. (stock code 300059) released its first-half 2026 financial report on August 22. The report shows the company generated revenue of 10.5 billion yuan for the January-June period, a 53% surge from 6.856 billion yuan in the prior year's corresponding period. Securities services contributed 8.226 billion yuan to revenue, while financial e-commerce services added 2.085 billion yuan.

Net profit for the first half reached 8.064 billion yuan, climbing 44.85% from 5.567 billion yuan a year earlier. After deducting non-recurring gains and losses, net profit stood at 7.727 billion yuan, up 47% from 5.252 billion yuan in the same period of 2025. Despite these robust earnings, East Money also received 400 million yuan in government subsidies during the first half. Yet with such substantial profitability, the company has opted against distributing dividends.

Where to begin with this financial snapshot

As of June 30, 2026, actual controller Qi Shi held a 19.23% stake in East Money. China Construction Bank Corporation's Guotai CSI All Securities Companies ETF held 2.46%, while Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company held 1.8%. China Construction Bank Corporation's Huabao CSI All Securities Companies ETF held 1.58%. Qi Shi's spouse Lu Lili owned 1.01%, Bao Yiqing held 0.97%, and Shi Jia held 0.89%. Industrial and Commercial Bank of China's E Fund ChiNext ETF held 0.5%, while China Construction Bank Corporation's E Fund CSI 300 Non-Bank Financial ETF also held 0.5%. Haitong Securities' China Asset Management CSI All Securities Companies ETF held 0.47%.

By contrast, as of December 31, 2025, Qi Shi held 19.38% of the company. Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company owned 2.41%, and China Construction Bank Corporation's Guotai CSI All Securities Companies ETF held 2.2%. ICBC's E Fund ChiNext ETF held 1.57%, while China Construction Bank Corporation's Huabao CSI All Securities Companies ETF held 1.53%. ICBC's Huatai-PineBridge CSI 300 ETF held 1.32%. Lu Lili, Qi Shi's wife, held 1.01%, Bao Yiqing owned 0.97%, and Central Huijin Asset Management held 0.96%.

During the second half of 2025, East Money's ownership structure shifted notably as Qi Shi's father Shen Yougen and wife Lu Lili executed significant share reductions. Through two rounds of selling, the Qi family cashed out 9.2 billion yuan in 2025. By the first half of 2026, East Money's shareholder base became even more fragmented, with multiple funds reducing their positions.

At Friday's market close, East Money's share price stood at 18.91 yuan, giving the company a market capitalization of 299.2 billion yuan. In May 2026, Qi Shi donated 20 million shares to the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Education Development Foundation without compensation. At Friday's share price, that donation was valued at 378 million yuan.

Back on August 19, 2025, East Money shares were trading as high as 29.26 yuan, meaning the stock has declined 35% over the past year. In October 2025, family members Lu Lili and Shen Yougen transferred a combined 237.8 million shares, representing 1.50% of the company's total share capital, at 24.40 yuan per share. This transaction generated 5.8 billion yuan in proceeds for the Qi family—5.05 billion yuan from Lu Lili and 752 million yuan from Shen Yougen. That transfer price stands 29% higher than the current 18.91 yuan share price.

While the Qi family capitalized on elevated share prices in 2025, many investors have experienced losses. East Money's refusal to pay dividends has fueled frustration among those who are underwater on their positions.

The contrast with competitor Hithink RoyalFlush Information Network Co., Ltd. is striking. Hithink's revenue and profit both trail East Money's figures—it posted first-half 2026 revenue of 2.646 billion yuan and net profit of 950 million yuan—yet Hithink still distributed 150 million yuan in dividends.
