The world's largest derivatives exchange, CME Group Inc (CME.US), has announced it will launch single stock futures covering more than 50 leading U.S. equities on July 27th, pending final regulatory review processes.
The new listings will include 55 standard futures contracts and 22 micro futures contracts, providing market participants with greater flexibility for managing stock exposure.
Tim McCourt, Global Head of Equity, FX, and Alternative Products at CME Group, stated that clients are seeking more precise tools for managing equity price risk while benefiting from the capital efficiency of a centralized trading market.
The new products will simplify access to the most liquid U.S. individual stocks, enabling traders to easily switch between broad market index hedging and precise single-stock exposure positioning.
Dual Contract Structure
The single stock futures being launched feature a dual contract design to cater to investors of different scales.
The 55 standard contracts are aimed at large institutional investors, while the 22 micro contracts lower the participation barrier for retail and smaller investors. Both contract types will be listed for trading under the CME Group rule framework.
Initial Product Coverage
The initial offerings will focus on the largest and most liquid U.S. technology and growth stocks.
These include Alphabet (GOOGL.US), Amazon (AMZN.US), Apple (AAPL.US), Meta (META.US), Nvidia (NVDA.US), and SpaceX (SPCX.US).
Growing Market Demand
Demand for equity derivatives is growing from both institutional and retail investors.
In 2026, CME Group's related products achieved record highs in trading volume and open interest. For futures and options products, average daily volume reached 8.6 million contracts, with average open interest at 11.7 million contracts.
Specifically for futures products, average daily volume was 7.2 million contracts, a 12% year-over-year increase, while average open interest reached a record high of 5.4 million contracts.
