Deutsche Bank Analyst Vows to Continue Writing After Contentious Report Draws U.S. Displeasure

Deutsche Bank AG analyst George Saravelos authored a controversial report that drew criticism from U.S. officials. He has pledged to continue producing research, stating that the incident highlights the importance of independent analysis.

Last month, Saravelos warned that threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Greenland could reduce Europe's willingness to hold U.S. assets. Days later, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin stated that Deutsche Bank AG's chief executive had called to say the bank did not endorse the analyst's report.

In an interview on Wednesday, Saravelos remarked, "This episode reaffirms the importance of research independence," adding that he had received "strong support" from clients and colleagues.

Saravelos noted, "As long as we produce solid analysis, strive for objectivity, and focus on markets rather than politics, I don't see it as difficult. We will keep writing reports, and clients are happy to read them."

When the controversy arose, a spokesperson for Deutsche Bank AG stated, "As a long-standing policy, Deutsche Bank AG’s research department operates independently, so the views expressed in individual research reports do not necessarily reflect the stance of the bank’s management."
