From October 29 to 30, Han Jun, Party Secretary and Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, conducted research in Shaanxi on agricultural technological innovation and rural industrial development. Han emphasized the need to thoroughly implement the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, strengthen breakthroughs in core agricultural technologies, and accelerate the efficient transformation and application of major scientific achievements to achieve high-level self-reliance in agricultural technology. He called for balanced development in scientific, green, quality, and brand agriculture, tailored to local conditions to enhance rural specialty industries and improve agricultural efficiency.

Yangling Demonstration Zone, China's first agricultural high-tech industrial demonstration zone, has collaborated closely with institutions like Northwest A&F University (NWAFU) to achieve significant breakthroughs. Han visited NWAFU’s National Key Laboratory of Crop Stress Resistance and Efficient Production, reviewing research on stress-resistant and high-yield wheat varieties, disease control, and efficient nutrient utilization. He stressed the importance of advancing fundamental research, exploring the interplay between crop genotypes, phenotypes, and environmental factors, and accelerating breakthroughs in new crop varieties and disease-resistant technologies.

During an exhibition of NWAFU’s achievements, Han examined high-quality grain, oil, and fruit varieties, as well as smart agricultural equipment, discussing dryland water-saving, precision seeding, and intelligent harvesting technologies with researchers. He urged a focus on international frontiers and industrial needs, prioritizing high-yield and high-quality varieties, water-efficient technologies, and advanced agricultural machinery suitable for hilly and mountainous areas.

At the Yangling Smart Agriculture Demonstration Park, Han reviewed smart greenhouse control systems, advocating for upgrades in facility agriculture, expanded smart farming applications, and broader adoption of advanced technologies to enhance digital and intelligent agricultural practices.

As the base for the SCO Agricultural Technology Training Demonstration, Yangling hosts the SCO Agricultural Exchange Center. Han highlighted the role of the Yangling Agricultural Hi-Tech Fair (Yangling Agri-Tech Expo) in showcasing innovations and fostering international exchanges. He called for stronger support to Yangling’s development, integrating education, technology, and talent to create an agricultural sci-tech hub with robust innovation ecosystems.

Shaanxi’s apple industry, a regional strength, was another focus. Han visited the Luochuan Modern Apple Industrial Park, inspecting intelligent sorting lines and learning about variety cultivation, large-scale planting, processing, storage, and sales. At NWAFU’s Luochuan Apple Experimental Station, he emphasized breeding competitive apple varieties, promoting high-efficiency techniques like dwarf dense planting, and enhancing extension services to boost farmers’ incomes. He advocated for full-chain development, leveraging industrial parks to integrate R&D, production, processing, and sales, while strengthening branding to increase value-added benefits.
