The European Commission on Friday awarded a six-year sovereign cloud services contract worth 180 million euros (approximately 212 million US dollars) to four European suppliers. This move forms part of the EU’s broader strategy to reduce its reliance on non-European technology.
The contract has been granted to Post Telecom of Luxembourg, Germany’s StackIT, Scaleway—a data center subsidiary of French Iliad Group—and Belgium’s Proximus.
In addition, Post Telecom will bring in partners OVHcloud and CleverCloud, while Proximus is leading a consortium that includes Mistral AI, Clarence, Thales, and S3NS—a data center joint venture established with Google Cloud.
