Copper Futures on the Comex Edge Lower, Snapping Winning Streak

A slight decline was recorded for copper futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange (Comex) on Thursday, with the front-month contract closing down 0.24% at $6.6870 per pound.

The August delivery contract fell by 1.60 cents per pound, marking a 0.24% drop. This decline represented the largest single-day move, both in dollar and percentage terms, since Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

Despite the loss, the settlement price was the second highest on record, though it ended a three-day winning streak. The closing price also ranked as the second highest level for the year so far.

The current price is 0.24% below the 52-week high of $6.7030, which was set on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Compared to the 52-week low of $4.3785, reached on Thursday, August 7, 2025, the price has surged by 52.72%. This represents a gain of 52.72% from the same period one year ago.

In relation to 2026-specific benchmarks, the settlement price is 0.24% lower than the year's high of $6.7030 from Wednesday, August 5, 2026. It is 25.17% higher than the 2026 settlement low of $5.3425, which was seen on Friday, March 20, 2026. The price also sits 0.24% below the all-time high settlement of $6.7030, set on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

Year-to-date, the front-month contract has accumulated a gain of $1.057, representing a rise of 18.77%. All calculations are based on the settlement price of the current front-month contract.
