According to data released by market research firm Counterpoint Research on Thursday, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. maintained its position as the world's largest supplier of dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) in the first quarter of this year.

The figures show that Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. accounted for 38% of global DRAM revenue during the January to March period. Its South Korean rival, SK Hynix, secured second place with a 29% market share, while the US-based Micron Technology Inc. took third place with a 22% share.

SK Hynix had led the global DRAM market in the first and second quarters of last year, with Samsung holding the second position.

The two companies tied for first place in the third quarter, each with a 33% market share. Samsung regained the top spot in the fourth quarter of last year and has continued to hold the lead into the first quarter of this year.

The data indicates that the gap in market share between Samsung and SK Hynix widened from 4 percentage points in the fourth quarter of last year to 9 percentage points in the first quarter.

Although Samsung's market share declined compared to the same period last year, the company remains the dominant force in the global DRAM market, contributing over one-third of total revenue.
