Iran has escalated its assaults on energy infrastructure around the Persian Gulf, igniting a fire at a major natural gas field and increasing strain on an already tightening global fuel supply situation.

On Monday, operations at the Shah natural gas field in the United Arab Emirates were suspended after a drone attack started a fire. Officials are currently assessing the extent of the damage. In separate incidents, an oil field in Iraq and a crucial port in the UAE were also targeted by Iranian drones and missiles.

According to the media office in the UAE capital, authorities in Abu Dhabi have successfully brought the fire at the Shah high-sulfur gas field, located in the Rub' al Khali desert west of Abu Dhabi, under control. There have been no reports of injuries.

Furthermore, a statement from a spokesperson for the Iraqi oil ministry confirmed that the Majnoon oil field in southern Iraq was attacked, although no further details were provided.
