EMCOR Group Inc (NYSE: EME) shares plummeted 14.26% in pre-market trading on Thursday, despite reporting better-than-expected third-quarter results for 2025. The significant drop suggests investors may be concerned about the company's future outlook or other underlying factors not immediately apparent in the earnings report.

For the third quarter, EMCOR reported earnings per share of $6.57, surpassing the analyst consensus estimate of $6.53 by 0.66%. This represents a 13.28% increase from the same period last year. Revenue for the quarter came in at $4.302 billion, beating the analyst estimate of $4.280 billion by 0.51% and showing a 16.36% year-over-year growth.

However, the company's guidance for fiscal year 2025 may be a contributing factor to the stock's decline. EMCOR narrowed its full-year adjusted earnings per share guidance to a range of $25.00 to $25.75, compared to the previous range of $24.50 to $25.75. The company also provided revenue guidance of $16.7 billion to $16.8 billion for the fiscal year, narrowing it from the previous $16.4 billion to $16.9 billion range. While these figures are not necessarily disappointing and are in line with analysts' expectations, investors may have been expecting more robust growth projections, leading to the sharp sell-off in pre-market trading. The market's reaction suggests concerns about future economic conditions or sector-specific challenges that may impact EMCOR's performance in the coming quarters.
