The promotional event and opening ceremony for Urumqi City's Public Reading Week was held at the Urumqi Cultural Center Square on April 19. During the event, appointment letters were issued to 10 reading promoters, and plaques were presented to designated "Bookish Bus" and "Bookish Metro" routes. Bus routes 4201 and 907, along with Metro Line 1, have been transformed into mobile reading spaces equipped with digital reading resources, supporting features such as QR code scanning for audiobooks and convenient borrowing services.

The Urumqi Library successfully signed agreements with pilot communities and villages for a "Book Express" service. This initiative operates on a model where residents place orders, the library fulfills them, and the community delivers, achieving door-to-door book services and continuous renewals to precisely bridge the "last mile" of public reading services. At the event, drivers of the Bookish Bus and Bookish Metro routes were awarded plaques and received book donations.

One resident, Zhang Ruo, remarked, "I didn’t expect the Public Reading Week activities to be so much richer than anticipated when I brought my child here this weekend." Parent-child reading activities such as outdoor story sessions and library group readings were organized in focused areas, avoiding a cluttered feel and helping to cultivate children's reading habits from an early age.

In recent years, Urumqi has continuously improved public reading facilities, including community bookrooms, rural libraries, and urban study spaces, while innovatively carrying out diverse reading promotion activities to transition public reading from periodic events to regular practice. A series of special promotional activities will also be launched throughout the Reading Week.
