According to a report by Nikkei on August 10, 2025, the global average price of battery electric vehicles (EVs) has fallen below that of hybrid vehicles (HVs) for the first time this year. This decline is attributed to lower costs of key components like batteries, as well as Chinese automakers leveraging mass production to reduce manufacturing expenses and aggressively exporting to emerging markets.

The data, sourced from US-based research firm Mobility Global, reflects the average suggested retail price of new cars excluding subsidies, weighted by sales volume of each vehicle type. The report highlights that falling lithium battery prices and the accelerated overseas expansion of Chinese automakers are key drivers behind the continuous drop in EV prices.

China's General Administration of Customs data shows that in 2025, the country exported 8.324 million complete vehicles, a 29.9% year-on-year increase, with total export value reaching $142.46 billion (approximately 961.934 billion yuan based on current exchange rates), up 21.4% from the previous year.
