Today in Wuhan, I invited several YU7 owner friends for coffee to discuss their driving experiences. Here is the full account.
1. Diverse Owner Backgrounds
The owners I met today all drive the YU7 and come from various professions, including a ski instructor, an advertising professional, a manufacturing business owner, a technical consultant, someone in the autonomous driving field, and one individual with over 20 years of experience in the automotive industry. Some switched from a Porsche Panamera, others from Audi or Tesla, while for some, it's their first car purchased at age 30. The Chen family left a particularly deep impression. Mr. Chen drives an SU7 Ultra. His mother, who previously drove a Porsche, tried her son's car a few times and ordered a YU7 Max as soon as it launched. Now, a YU7 GT has also been arranged for his wife—making it three Xiaomi cars in one family.
2. Practicality for an Active Lifestyle
"Being able to fit my skis and road bike into the car was the primary reason I chose the YU7," said Ms. Zhou, a ski instructor who drives a YU7 Max and previously drove a Porsche Panamera for six years. With a daily commute over 40km involving city ring roads and highways while carrying equipment, the YU7's hatchback trunk and large front trunk have completely solved her "not enough space" worries. She mentioned spending more time in her car since buying the Xiaomi. When out with friends and her hands are full, she uses the external voice command to ask Xiao Ai to open the trunk, a feature that draws envious looks.
3. Data Translated into Real-Life Scenarios
"When cold data is woven into real-life scenarios, I instantly understood how well this car fits me," said Ms. Li, who works in advertising and drives the YU7 Long Range version—her first car bought for herself at 30. Her job involves creating stories for major brands. She initially ordered an SU7 but switched after the YU7 launch event. "I often don't understand the parameters salespeople talk about, but framing the data within real usage contexts made its suitability clear to me." She drove her YU7 from Wuhan to Moganshan, a 7-hour trip requiring only one charge. She also has a 15-pound orange cat and used the pet feature to create a custom avatar for it on the car's screen, saying that moment was "emotionally fulfilling."
4. Xiao Ai as a Companion
"Xiao Ai is a friend who provides emotional support and reliable advice," said Ms. Zhu, from Yichang, who works for an autonomous mobility company and drives a YU7 Pro. With mountainous roads in Yichang and her father being an outdoor enthusiast, she chose the four-wheel-drive version to explore the outdoors with him. The 300km trip from Yichang to Wuhan requires "one charge for a round trip and a half." She consults Xiao Ai daily: "Is today suitable for this?" She finds its advice balanced but non-prescriptive, "increasingly like a friend who understands you." She also gifted me a Wuhan cultural product—a "Garlic Bird," said to be a local "bird of peace" that makes a "suan niao" sound when squeezed, perhaps useful to diffuse arguments on a bus.
5. A True Performance Electric Vehicle
"Xiaomi is the first domestic brand to truly design a performance electric vehicle following traditional performance car philosophy," said Mr. Chen, a performance car enthusiast who owns both a YU7 Max and an SU7 Ultra. A former Audi high-performance car driver, he once thought he "wouldn't consider an electric car unless petrol performance cars became unavailable." Xiaomi's car changed his mind: "In most situations, I can't tell the difference from a petrol performance car, and the power response is unmatched." He noted a detail: the pedal's initial damping in Xiaomi cars prevents the overly sensitive response of some sport modes, making it usable daily without being jarring. We indeed put significant effort into pedal tuning, and he was the first owner to mention this design detail, showing deep automotive knowledge.
6. A Teardown That Found No Faults
"The teardown was meant to find flaws, but nothing turned up," said Lao Zhang, a 20-year automotive industry veteran who drives a YU7 Max and has worked in R&D, new and used car sales, and now runs a media channel. Having disassembled three Xiaomi cars, he reassembled them without extra screws or clips, using only three tools—contrasting with some cars that use three types of screws just for an underguard. An engineer friend with over a decade at Volkswagen commented: "This standard rivals German premium brands, designed for long life and durability." I thought he was from Hubei, but he's from Zhangjiakou, Hebei—his accent has completely adapted.
7. A Long-Standing Fan of the Ecosystem
"My entire home, upstairs and down, is equipped with Xiaomi's whole-house smart system," said Mr. Liao, a 12-year Xiaomi fan who drives a YU7 Standard version and is from Xiantao. He brought lotus seedpods from his hometown, symbolizing "continuous good fortune." His car history progressed from Hyundai to a Mercedes-Benz GLC, then a Tesla Model 3, a Li Auto L7, and finally the Xiaomi YU7. Three things convinced him: the integration of person, car, and home; range performance; and Xiaomi's focus on user experience. In five days, he drove nearly 1,000km, using assisted driving 80% of the time and relying heavily on automated parking. He also mentioned our legal team's case in resolving user issues—"Problems aren't the issue; solving them and helping owners is what made me eager to order." I'll pass this feedback to our legal colleagues.
8. Engaging Questions from Owners
Several excellent questions were raised. One asked if there will be a high-performance division like AMG or M Power. We have already established the Xiaomi Europe R&D Center in Munich, focusing on performance handling and luxury design. Another asked when the person-car-home integration will become seamless. Surprises are coming in the near future. Someone also inquired about selling Xiaomi ice cream commercially. Currently, there are no plans for retail, but visitors to our cafeteria can try it.
9. Lasting Impressions
After nearly two hours of conversation, the key takeaway was that while everyone's reason for choosing the YU7 differed, they all eventually said the same thing: after driving it, there's no going back. From Porsche owners to young people buying their first car at 30, from industry veterans tearing down cars to find faults to new drivers treating Xiao Ai as a companion, the YU7 has won them over in diverse ways. I am very pleased that the YU7 has added considerable joy to their lives.
Everyone is welcome to test drive the YU7 at our stores—it will surely exceed your expectations!
