POET Technologies Inc. shares fell 5.44% in pre-market trading, reversing some of the previous session's substantial gains. The photonic integration company, which designs components for AI and data center markets, experienced the decline as investors digested its first-quarter financial results released after the previous close.
The company reported quarterly earnings per share of $(0.08), missing the analyst consensus estimate of $(0.05) by 60 percent. This represented a significant decrease from earnings of $0.08 per share in the same period last year. However, POET's revenue of $503,389 beat expectations of $300,000 by 67.80 percent and marked a 201.86 percent increase year-over-year.
The mixed results come after POET's stock surged 43.15% during the regular session and gained an additional 11.28% in after-hours trading following the earnings announcement. The earlier rally was fueled by positive developments including a $50 million initial purchase order from Lumilens for electrical-optical interposer-based optical engines, which represents the first phase of a commercial framework that could scale to $500 million in cumulative purchases over five years.
