Hang Seng Investment Management Limited has partnered with HSBC Holdings PLC to launch the "Hang Seng Gold ETF Tokenized Non-Listed Class" (Trading Code: HSGLD) in Hong Kong today. The new product, issued by Hang Seng Investment, represents Hong Kong's first tokenized non-listed class of a physically-backed gold ETF. Through HSBC's tokenization services, it offers an additional channel to expand access to gold investments. HSBC serves as the ETF's tokenization agent, gold trader, gold custodian, trustee, and transfer agent. By combining physical assets with innovative financial technology capabilities, the tokenized non-listed class supports evolving client needs and aligns with the growing trend in digital asset markets. The tokenized non-listed class is currently distributed through the virtual asset trading platform HashKey Exchange. This three-party collaboration also marks a significant development in Hong Kong's tokenization ecosystem, supporting broader adoption of tokenized investment products and creating new opportunities for on-chain investors. Wong Kang-fung, Director and Chief Executive Officer of Hang Seng Investment Management Limited, stated that by launching the "Hang Seng Gold ETF Tokenized Non-Listed Class," the company extends product investment from traditional distribution channels to on-chain investors, offering them an additional compliant investment option. Suvir Loomba, Head of Securities Services for Asia-Pacific at HSBC, noted that this product complements the bank's existing gold token offerings and reaffirms its commitment to innovation in Hong Kong's financial ecosystem. HSBC will continue to focus on providing comprehensive digital asset services for clients, covering asset tokenization and custody solutions, with Hong Kong as the first market for launch.
