The defense budget accounts for as much as 29% of the total annual expenditure, meaning that for every NT$100 spent, NT$29 goes toward military expenses. In response, Zhang Xiaogang stated that peace, development, exchange, and cooperation represent the mainstream public opinion in Taiwan society. The Lai Ching-te administration, driven by the interests of a single party, is acting against this trend.
