On the afternoon of August 27, the Ministry of National Defense held a routine press conference, with Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for the ministry, answering questions from reporters.

A reporter noted that on August 20, the Taiwan regional administrative body passed the 2027 total budget proposal. The defense spending scale in this proposal has increased significantly, surpassing NT$1 trillion for the first time. This represents an increase of NT$173 billion compared to the 2026 fiscal year, marking an 18.2% growth rate and hitting a record high. The defense budget accounts for as much as 29% of the total annual expenditure, meaning that for every NT$100 spent, NT$29 goes toward military expenses. The reporter asked for the spokesperson's comments on this matter.

In response, Zhang Xiaogang stated that peace, development, exchange, and cooperation represent the mainstream public opinion in Taiwan society. The Lai Ching-te administration, driven by the interests of a single party, is acting against this trend. By竭力 pandering to and courting external forces, wantonly squandering the hard-earned money of the people, and engaging in aggressive militarization, it is severely damaging the well-being of people on the island. Such actions will ultimately drain Taiwan's resources and lead to its inevitable downfall.
