California Diesel Prices Hit Display Maximum at Some Stations Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

On Thursday, diesel prices at select fueling stations in California surged to the maximum display limit of $9.999 per gallon, as escalating U.S.-Iran tensions fueled uncertainty over crude oil flows from the region.

According to a post on X by GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan, five stations in the state were "selling diesel at the highest possible price of $9.999 per gallon," with their posted rates having "maxed out."

In a separate post, De Haan highlighted the persistent rise in fuel expenditures for American consumers. He noted that current total daily fuel spending stands "700 million dollars higher than the same time last year," accumulating to an additional $5 billion each week. He also pointed out that the average diesel price has reached $6 per gallon, while gasoline sits at $4.2 per gallon.

In a statement released by GasBuddy, De Haan said the immediate impact of the price surge may not be instantly visible, but "record diesel prices will affect every shipment, every transport, and every item delivered to Americans, and will likely re-ignite inflationary pressures across the entire supply chain." He added that the upcoming holiday season could bring even higher consumer costs.

According to GasBuddy data, the national average diesel price surpassed $6 per gallon for the first time on Thursday, with California's average diesel price reaching $7.91 per gallon.
