Shopify (SHOP) shares fell sharply by 5.22% intraday on Monday after the e-commerce platform suffered a widespread outage during Cyber Monday, one of the busiest online shopping days of the year.
The outage disrupted merchants' ability to log in, access point-of-sale systems, and process transactions, with over 4,000 user reports at its peak, per Downdetector. Shopify acknowledged the issue on its status page, stating it was "investigating and applying mitigations." The incident coincided with Adobe's forecast of a record $14.2 billion in U.S. online sales for the day.
