Delta Air Lines shares surged 5.02% during intraday trading on Monday, driven by a combination of bullish analyst actions and a sharp decline in crude oil prices that lifted the entire airline sector.

Goldman Sachs added Delta Air Lines to its prestigious US Conviction List, maintaining a Buy rating on the stock and providing a significant catalyst for investors. This endorsement follows a series of positive developments for the carrier, including multiple analyst price target upgrades after the company delivered a strong Q2 earnings report on July 10, where it beat expectations and reaffirmed full-year EPS guidance of $6.50 to $7.50 despite record-high fuel costs. Delta has also been expanding its international route network with new direct flights to Saudi Arabia and Manila.

Adding further momentum, oil prices fell over 5% after U.S. President Donald Trump held off a fresh attack on Iran and sought a quick deal to halt Tehran's nuclear ambitions and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Since fuel costs represent one of the largest operating expenses for airlines, the slide in crude prices provided a broad tailwind for the sector, with American Airlines, United Airlines, and Southwest Airlines also posting strong gains during the session.
