Sam Altman of OpenAI stated that the progress made by Chinese technology companies across the entire technology stack is "extraordinary."

Altman made these remarks as China competes with the United States to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI)—where AI reaches human-level capability—and deploy the technology throughout society.

Altman noted that the pace of technological advancement, including in artificial intelligence and "many other areas," is "astonishingly fast." He added that in certain fields, Chinese tech companies are already near the cutting edge, while in others they still lag slightly behind.
