Anthropic Walks Away From $6 Billion Decart Acquisition Talks

Anthropic PBC has reportedly scrapped its plans to purchase the artificial intelligence startup Decart AI, according to sources familiar with the matter. The company had been actively working on the deal and had completed its due diligence on Decart before ultimately deciding to step back from the acquisition.

One insider indicated that the two firms might still explore alternative avenues for business collaboration. Representatives from both Anthropic and Decart declined to comment on the situation. Bloomberg had previously reported in August that the developer behind the Claude chatbot was in discussions to acquire Decart for approximately $6 billion, though no formal agreement had been reached at that stage and the deal was always subject to potential collapse.

Decart specializes in building software that enhances chip efficiency, thereby cutting costs associated with training and running artificial intelligence models. Anthropic rarely pursues large-scale acquisitions. Currently, as the company gears up for its highly anticipated Wall Street IPO, it is ramping up computing infrastructure investments to support new product development and client services. Sources reveal that Anthropic expects to raise a sum in its IPO that could match or even surpass what SpaceX has brought in.
