Cathay Pacific (00293) announced that its passenger volume in December 2025 increased by 22% compared to the same month in 2024, with available seat kilometers rising 23% year-on-year. For the full year of 2025, passenger volume grew by 27% compared to 2024. Cathay Cargo's tonnage in December 2025 increased by 6% year-on-year, while available cargo tonne kilometers rose 8%. Full-year cargo tonnage for 2025 surpassed 2024 levels by more than 9%. HK Express carried over 780,000 passengers in December 2025, a 24% increase from December 2024, with available seat kilometers up 19%. The airline's full-year 2025 passenger volume grew by 30% compared to 2024. Lavinia Lau, Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, stated, "December is traditionally a peak travel season, and customer demand for travel remained robust. On December 27, 2025, Cathay Pacific and HK Express together carried over 125,000 passengers, setting a new single-day record for the Group. We were delighted to break this record again just days later, with over 126,000 passengers carried on January 3, 2026, marking another historic high and a bright start to the new year." "For the full year 2025, Cathay Pacific and HK Express together carried over 36 million passengers, a 27% year-on-year increase. This was supported by a significant enhancement of the Group's passenger capacity during the year, with available seat kilometers rising more than 25% compared to 2024. Furthermore, Cathay Cargo's full-year tonnage exceeded 1.6 million tonnes, growing over 9% from 2024." "In early December, we saw steady inbound traffic from students returning to Hong Kong from North America, Oceania, and the UK, as well as customers visiting family and friends. Subsequently, during the year-end holidays, visitor traffic to Hong Kong increased, primarily from Northeast Asia, Thailand, and India. For outbound traffic, leisure travel demand grew significantly during the peak holiday period, with Northeast and Southeast Asia being particularly popular. Furthermore, Mainland China also emerged as a hot travel destination, with many Hong Kong travellers taking trips during the year-end holidays to multiple Mainland destinations served by the Group." "With the year-end holidays concluded, customers have begun planning their next trips, and bookings for the Lunar New Year period are steadily increasing. Looking beyond February, we will focus on capturing travel demand driven by key events in Hong Kong and the region ahead of the Easter holiday." "Additionally, Cathay Pacific was honoured to be recognised by Airline Ratings, being ranked among the top two safest airlines globally for 2026 (in the traditional full-service airline category), fully reflecting our steadfast commitment to safe operations." "Although cargo tonnage in December softened slightly due to the approaching holidays, it remained robust, dipping only 3% compared to November. Demand for 'Cathay Fresh' was strong, with many seasonal agricultural products from the Americas transported to other markets in the Greater Bay Area via the 'Air-Surface Fresh Produce Express'; fresh goods shipped from Oceania to Hong Kong further contributed to the overall growth of 'Cathay Fresh'. Furthermore, performance for 'Cathay Special' was solid in the Northeast Asia market, primarily driven by demand for transporting machinery components within the region." "We anticipate cargo demand will ease slightly in early January, but it is expected to gradually climb as the Lunar New Year holiday approaches." "HK Express experienced robust passenger demand during the recent year-end holidays, with both passenger volume and load factor in December improving compared to the same period in 2024. Looking ahead, as HK Express continues to expand its route network, passenger volume is expected to maintain year-on-year growth." "HK Express was recently honoured by Airline Ratings as the world's safest low-cost airline for the second consecutive year. We are deeply honoured, as this award fully demonstrates HK Express's adherence to the highest standards of safe operations." "As we enter 2026, we will host a series of special activities to celebrate Cathay's 80th anniversary. Upholding our new vision of becoming customers' most loved service brand, we will continue to enhance the customer experience and further solidify Hong Kong's position as a premier international aviation hub."
