NVIDIA shed almost $450 billion in market value on Thursday.

Prominent U.S. financial broadcaster Jim Cramer said the artificial intelligence darling should buy back its own shares. In a post on X, Cramer argued that when a company's stock becomes the most cost-effective asset in the market, that company should repurchase its own shares. He added: "NVIDIA can step in and buy back, keep adding, or it can let the stock keep sliding."

The stock is currently down about 25% from its all-time high of $243.37 set on October 6, wiping out $1.39 trillion in market value, including a single-day loss of $446.94 billion on Thursday.

Concerns about restrictions on data center construction have intensified the selling pressure. According to Citi Research, as of October, cases of data center bans and approval suspensions across the United States had exceeded 500, compared with almost none in mid-2025. In Texas, Democrat Gina Hinojosa pledged during her campaign to pause all data center approvals until lawmakers pass related safeguards; she ultimately defeated incumbent Governor Greg Abbott. U.S. independent Senator Bernie Sanders renewed his call for a nationwide moratorium after the midterm elections, while Representative Yassamin Ansari (D-Arizona) urged Democrats to push for a "ban on artificial superintelligence."

NVIDIA (NVDA) shares plunged 9.26% on Thursday to close at $181.60. Year to date, the stock has fallen 2.40%, and over the past year it has declined 6.75%.
