Despite reporting third-quarter earnings that exceeded expectations, with analysts maintaining a generally positive outlook, shares of Palo Alto Networks (PANW.US) were down approximately 3% in pre-market trading on Wednesday. However, Wall Street analysts remain steadfastly optimistic about the stock's future trajectory and have raised their price targets.

Jefferies: Reiterates Buy, Highlights Cash Flow and M&A Returns

Jefferies maintained its "Buy" rating on Palo Alto Networks and increased its price target from $300 to $335. The analyst team, led by Joseph Gallo, noted: "Driven by robust developments in AI, SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), and SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) businesses, the company's third-quarter net new annual recurring revenue (NNARR) accelerated. While bears might point to a potential slowdown in service revenue growth (management indicated stability), the guidance for the fourth quarter shows NNARR accelerating again, for which the company has extremely high visibility."

The analysts added: "Palo Alto Networks will benefit from cross-selling synergies and the emerging AI data center narrative in fiscal 2027, which will support firewall business growth and enhance performance observability alongside the flourishing AI business. Furthermore, the company's reaffirmation of its 40% long-term free-cash-flow margin guidance is crucial, as it strongly validates the return on recent merger and acquisition investments."

Wedbush: A Pillar of the AI Top 30, Any Knee-Jerk Sell-off is a Buying Opportunity

Wedbush maintained its "Outperform" rating and raised its price target from $300 to $340. Star analyst Dan Ives and his team commented: "Palo Alto Networks delivered a clean beat across the board for the third quarter and raised its revenue and profit guidance for fiscal 2026, reflecting strong growth momentum as more organizations turn to the company to secure enterprise-wide AI deployments."

Ives emphasized: "Our maintained 'Outperform' rating and increased price target reflect our heightened confidence in Palo Alto Networks winning deals through its AI-native integrated security platform. The company is a powerful pillar within the 'AI Top 30' list. We would buy any dip caused by a knee-jerk reaction."

The analysts pointed out that Palo Alto Networks remains one of their top cybersecurity picks for 2026, as they firmly believe the "platformization" strategy is still in its early stages of unlocking value. Industry consolidation is accelerating as more enterprises turn to the company for advanced cybersecurity AI solutions.

Morgan Stanley: Top Cybersecurity Pick for 2026, Short-Term Pause Doesn't Alter Long-Term Thesis

Morgan Stanley maintained its "Overweight" rating and significantly raised its price target from $253 to $320. Analysts led by Meta Marshall stated: "Palo Alto Networks delivered a beat against a high base, which is significant for expectations in its third and fourth quarters. Although the company indicated that full adoption of its AI product portfolio will take time, potentially leading to a temporary pause after the stock's 60% surge last month, we maintain our Overweight rating because it is a clear beneficiary of customer adoption of AI technology."

Morgan Stanley noted that the third-quarter results and guidance eliminated all potential risk points, with broad-based momentum and early synergies from the acquisitions of CyberArk and Chronosphere being impressive. While the hardware business performed better than expected, there was no significant evidence of demand being pulled forward, unlike some other enterprise companies.

"We expect growth to accelerate next year, which, even with the company's note on pacing, will continue to provide positive catalysts. Although the after-hours reaction was relatively muted, we view this as a normal pause following last month's 61% stock price increase. We are awaiting more signals of rapid customer adoption of AI security tools (not the question of 'if' but 'when')," the Marshall team added.

They emphasized that Palo Alto Networks remains one of their most favored cybersecurity stocks for 2026, as the platformization strategy is still in its early stages, and with the consolidation theme accelerating, more enterprises are turning to the company for advanced cybersecurity AI solutions.
