Since June this year, the Hexi and Baiyin regions have experienced average temperatures 1.0 to 2.8 degrees Celsius higher than usual. Concurrently, water flow in major rivers has decreased, presenting a dual challenge to agricultural production from high-temperature damage and drought-induced water scarcity. The city's agricultural and rural departments have swiftly activated drought response mechanisms, implementing precise technical measures to firmly secure the baseline of grain safety.

The current period is critical for the irrigation and yield formation of crops such as wheat and corn. The city has adopted a coordinated approach involving city and district levels, departmental collaboration, and joint efforts by officials and the public, prioritizing drought resistance for seedlings and scientific field management as key agricultural tasks. The agricultural and rural departments promptly issued technical guidelines for high-temperature and drought resistance, mobilizing agricultural technology, cultivation, and plant protection experts to work on the front lines. They conduct regular monitoring of soil moisture, crop conditions, and pest infestations while providing on-site guidance.

In Huangyang Town, Liangzhou District, town and village officials alongside agricultural technicians are actively guiding drought mitigation efforts in the fields. Wu Wenzhou, a member of the town's Party committee, explained that the town focuses on water conservation, efficiency improvement, and scientific control. Technicians are assigned to specific villages and households, promoting water-saving methods such as "37-28" controlled closure and shallow, light irrigation to extend irrigation cycles and enhance water use efficiency. The town has also strengthened pest and disease monitoring and early warning, promoting green prevention methods and unified control measures, and instructing farmers to apply drought-resistant regulators to improve crop stress tolerance.

Across the city, refined irrigation practices are being strictly implemented, with the promotion of efficient water-saving technologies like drip and sprinkler irrigation. Agronomic measures such as foliar fertilization and chemical regulation for drought resistance are being widely adopted to mitigate the impacts of high-temperature damage. Technical training is conducted through both online and offline channels. Media platforms are utilized to disseminate practical tips on soil moisture conservation, topdressing, and pest control via short videos and posters. City-level news media have also launched special live broadcast interview programs on flood control and drought resistance, where agricultural experts provide real-time answers, comprehensively enhancing farmers' scientific capabilities in combating drought.

To date, agricultural service teams at all levels in the city have been deployed to the grassroots in various forms, conducting comprehensive work on agricultural drought resistance and disaster prevention and mitigation. Moving forward, the focus will remain on closely monitoring meteorological and soil moisture changes, reinforcing drought response responsibilities, minimizing disaster losses to the greatest extent possible, and making every effort to ensure a successful grain harvest for the year.
