Foreign Investors Dump Record-High Nearly $50 Billion in South Korean Stocks in June

Friday's data reveals that foreign investors sold a record number of South Korean stocks in June, cashing in on profits.

According to the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), offshore investors shed 49.34 trillion won (approximately $33.8 billion) in local equities last month, marking the sixth consecutive month of net selling.

Following the June net sell-off, offshore investors held 290.86 trillion won in local stocks, accounting for 36.4% of the total market capitalization.

The latest figures show that, by country, British investors were the biggest sellers in May, offloading 32.22 trillion won in stocks, followed by U.S. investors, who sold 23.2 trillion won.

Last month, foreign investors net purchased 13.9 trillion won in bonds on the South Korean bond market. As of the end of June, foreign-held Korean bonds totaled 334.8 trillion won, representing 11.8% of all listed bonds in the country, according to the FSS data.
