Taiwan Defense Authority Reports Initial Helicopter and Drone Transit Beyond So-Called Median Line, Citing Over Nine Hours of Operations; Beijing Defense Ministry Rejects Claims

The Chinese Defense Ministry addressed a press query on July 30 regarding recent military activities near Taiwan. Spokesperson Senior Colonel Jiang Bin stated that there is no legitimate "median line" in the Taiwan Strait and that the People's Liberation Army's operations in the relevant air and maritime zones are entirely lawful.

Taiwan's defense authorities had reported that a PLA helicopter and a drone made their first-ever transit beyond the so-called "median line" into a restricted air zone to the east. The aircraft reportedly remained active in the area for more than nine hours, prompting local analysts to suggest the maneuvers represent a "new form of coordinated combat training" and a "battlefield pre-positioning drill."

In response, Jiang Bin characterized the "restricted zone" claimed by Taiwan's "opposition" armed forces as a bluff with no substance. He reiterated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, making the PLA's presence in the region both justified and necessary. The remarks were published on the official website of the Chinese Defense Ministry.
