American Airlines to Open New Express Lounge at New York's JFK Airport

American Airlines is set to open a new grab-and-go lounge at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport by the end of this year. This will be the first new lounge facility at the airport in four years and is part of the airline's strategy to attract premium travelers and narrow the profit gap with competitors like Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.

American Airlines' new lounge will span 3,700 square feet and will feature a coffee bar offering both hot and cold coffee beverages, along with a selection of hot and cold grab-and-go meals for passengers.

In recent years, airlines have increasingly introduced these express-style lounges to provide more space options for credit card holders and high-spending travelers, helping to alleviate overcrowding in larger airport club lounges. United Airlines opened its first grab-and-go lounge at Denver International Airport in late 2022.

Both airlines and credit card companies have raised entry requirements or scaled back complimentary guest privileges to prevent overcrowding in their facilities.

American Airlines launched its first grab-and-go lounge, named Provisions, at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina last year.

American Airlines operates out of Terminal 8 at JFK, sharing the terminal with its Oneworld alliance partners, including Japan Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and British Airways.

The airline opened three premium lounges at JFK in 2022, catering to business class, first class passengers, and elite members on long-haul flights. Additionally, the airport features an Admirals Club lounge, primarily for lounge membership cardholders. While American Airlines has recently updated lounge facilities in cities like Chicago and Austin, similar upgrades have not yet been made to its New York spaces.
