On August 28, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology unveiled the roster for the regional nodes of the national interconnected computing power network, with Shanxi Province earning a place on the list.

This nationwide initiative encompasses 17 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, including Beijing and Hebei, signifying Shanxi's official integration into the country's unified computing power network development framework.

These regional nodes represent a pivotal component of the "East-to-West Computing Resource Transfer" strategy, established following the Ministry's February 2026 directive on constructing interconnected computing power nodes. The designation targets key areas with substantial computing demands and robust industrial foundations.

The core objectives include dismantling barriers between data centers, supercomputing facilities, and intelligent computing hubs, establishing a standardized operational system with unified identification, interfaces, and scheduling mechanisms. This approach facilitates cross-regional coordination and efficient flow of computing resources, addressing the "computing silo" challenge while optimizing national resource utilization.

Recognizing the transformative potential of the digital economy, Shanxi has prioritized computing power development as essential to its resource-based economic transition. The province has implemented various supporting policies to strengthen infrastructure, optimize industrial composition, and nurture the broader ecosystem, steadily enhancing its overall computing capacity and competitive positioning.

In terms of infrastructure advancement, Shanxi continues to pursue large-scale, intensive, and intelligent upgrades. The province currently operates 514,000 standard server racks with intelligent computing capabilities reaching 32 EFLOPS, ranking among the nation's top performers in comprehensive computing indices. This solid foundation positions the province to effectively support cross-regional computing scheduling and collaborative ventures.

The provincial computing industry ecosystem is flourishing, supported by a favorable digital economy environment that has attracted leading enterprises including Baidu, Douyin (TikTok's parent company), and Dawning Information Industry. Major initiatives such as the Capital-Ring Taihang Mountain Computing Base are operating reliably with sustained efficiency gains, cultivating an integrated industry chain spanning equipment manufacturing, infrastructure operations, computing services, and application scenarios.

Shanxi is actively implementing its "Artificial Intelligence Plus" demonstration initiative across key sectors, particularly energy and advanced manufacturing. This digital-industrial integration has yielded substantial results, evidenced by the completion of 298 intelligent coal mines and the launch of the nation's first provincial-level coal industry internet platform. These developments exemplify a distinctive pathway for computing power to drive the modernization of resource-dependent regional economies.

The regional node designation represents a crucial achievement in Shanxi's computing industry development. Moving forward, the province will leverage this opportunity to enhance infrastructure, refine scheduling mechanisms, deepen cross-regional collaborations, and expand application scenarios. These efforts will amplify the role of computing power in driving industrial transformation, advancing the digital economy, and supporting green development initiatives, all while contributing to the successful construction of an integrated national computing network.
