First World Robot Sports Competition Begins

Yesterday, the first World Robot Sports Competition officially commenced. Right at the start, Unitree Technology's robot won the gold medal in the 1500-meter run with a commanding lead, moving so fast that the operator could barely keep up. There was even a small incident where the robot accidentally collided with someone and then appeared to "flee the scene."

According to Unitree Technology, the gold-winning robot model was the Unitree H1, the same model that gained popularity during Spring Festival performances. Notably, Unitree's two H1 robots secured first and third place in the 1500-meter event, while second place went to the "Tianjiao" robot from Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center Co., Ltd.

When asked about "Tianjiao" not using a remote controller, Wang Xingxing explained that Unitree's H1 also has the capability to operate without remote control, but due to different strategies and the pursuit of speed, Unitree ultimately chose to use remote control strategy in the competition. Wang Xingxing revealed that during the race, H1's running speed hadn't reached its maximum speed of 5 meters per second.

In the freestyle boxing competition, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics' Zhiyuan team faced off against the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications/China University of Mining and Technology joint team, with both sides using Unitree Technology's G1 robots exclusively. Due to remote control operation, the boxing robots frequently missed their targets.

For the group dance competition, professional dancers from Beijing Dance Academy partnered with nine full-size humanoid robots to perform the classical Chinese dance "Terracotta Warriors Soul," with synchronized movements. However, some robots stopped mid-performance and lay down, while others maintained steady footwork with smooth body movements.

The football competition, which didn't require remote control operation, was a major highlight: robot players needed to independently judge ball position and decide where to kick and dribble. Yesterday's 5V5 football match between University of Amsterdam (Netherlands) and Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (Germany) ended with Germany winning 11:0.

Zhou Hongyi Responds to Robot Fighting

Recently, Zhou Hongyi, founder of 360 Group, engaged in a boxing match with Unitree Technology's intelligent robot at the 2025 World Robot Conference. During the match, Zhou repeatedly knocked the robot down and even kicked it over.

On August 15, Zhou Hongyi responded to the "robot fighting" incident at 360 Group's 20th anniversary celebration. Zhou stated that 360's mission has evolved from making the world safer and better through security to making the AI world safer and better. "We use AI technology and intelligent agent technology to make our security capabilities more powerful."

Zhou revealed that 360 has another important theme this year: "large model security," solving AI's inherent problems through intelligent agents. He emphasized that as AI and intelligent agents become widely used, the security of intelligent agents and AI itself will become headaches for the industry.

"So my boxing match with the robot was a metaphor for how to cooperate well with AI in the future," Zhou explained. He also mentioned that companies that understand both security and AI will play a huge role. "360 understands AI better than all security companies and understands security better than all AI companies."

Zhou also pointed out that in the future, humans will be divided into two types: those controlled by AI and those who can control AI.

According to The Verge, OpenAI's ChatGPT head Nick Turley recently revealed in an interview that the company is considering additional revenue sources, with introducing advertisements in ChatGPT being a viable option.

"We wouldn't absolutely rule out this possibility."

While there's potential for introducing ads, Nick also stated that "OpenAI needs to carefully and cleverly consider how to 'integrate' advertisements into ChatGPT."

Nick explained that OpenAI would develop products in other dimensions, noting that ChatGPT itself isn't suitable for advertising integration "because it needs to be responsible for user expectations."

Nick also emphasized "subscription models," stating that "maintaining choice is good, but subscription models really have many 'extraordinary aspects'." He believes free users aren't necessarily a disadvantage, and OpenAI can better utilize subscription channels to provide differentiated services for those willing to pay.

Girl's Seat Adjustment Causes Brother's Death, Parents' Lawsuit Against Automaker Dismissed

According to CCTV News, on August 14, Shanghai High Court announced a case involving "girl's seat adjustment causing brother's death by compression, parents seeking compensation from automaker."

The plaintiffs, couple Zong and Wu, were traveling with their daughter (5 years old) and son (2 years 7 months old) in a commercial vehicle on May 1, 2023. Around 11 AM, after discovering their son unconscious with cyanosis in the vehicle, they rushed him to the hospital, but he died despite resuscitation efforts. The cause of death was recorded as hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.

During police questioning, Zong reported that his son died from suffocation after being compressed by the car seat. At the time of incident (around 10 AM), his wife sat in the second row right side, daughter in second row left side, and son was playing with a phone in the third row left seat.

Around 10:30 AM, the wife noticed the daughter had adjusted the seat very low and turned to find the seat pressing on the son's head, with the son lying under the seat. When called, the son didn't respond and had already stopped breathing.

The parents subsequently sued the automotive company, arguing that the vehicle's seat adjustment lacked automatic sensing retraction function, excessive pressure, design defects, and insufficient warning labels. They demanded public apology and 2 million yuan compensation including medical expenses, death compensation, funeral expenses, and emotional distress damages.

The court ruled that the vehicle was a small passenger vehicle produced by the automotive company, passing inspection in March 2021. The vehicle's user manual contained "Warning, Caution and Notice" markings and mentioned "child protection devices must be installed in the vehicle to reduce injury risk" under "Seats and Protection Devices."

Ultimately, the court dismissed the plaintiffs' lawsuit.
