Gold Prices Rebound on Sentiment Data, Says EasyMarkets

Deep News
07/20

Spot gold approached the high near $4,000 on July 20 following the release of consumer confidence and inflation expectation data, with EasyMarkets noting that the market is sensitive to the details of macro data, providing short-term sentiment support for the gold price.

Falling inflation expectations typically help reduce real interest rate pressure. In the view of EasyMarkets, if subsequent data continues to be moderate, gold may sustain its recovery; however, a strengthening US dollar would still limit the upside for precious metals.

The current rally reflects more of a short-term technical recovery post-data, and investors still need to observe whether ETF fund flows and futures trading volume provide confirmation. If fund flows do not show sustained improvement, the gold price may continue to fluctuate around key resistance levels. While improving consumer expectations could boost market confidence in a potential policy shift, this does not equate to a confirmed reversal in gold's trend. If moderate data leads to a decline in real interest rates, the gold price will receive stronger support; conversely, a rebound in the US dollar or a recovery in risk appetite may slow down gold buying. Therefore, the quality of capital inflows following the data is more crucial than a single price surge.

Moving forward, attention should be paid to changes in consumer confidence, inflation expectations, and the US dollar index. EasyMarkets analysis suggests that a decline in real interest rates would provide more stable support for gold, while a rebound in yields would likely keep prices in a volatile range.
