According to people familiar with the matter, the board of Walt Disney Company has reached a consensus to promote Josh D'Amaro, Chairman of the Parks and Experiences division, to the role of Chief Executive Officer, with a vote on the new leadership appointment scheduled for next week.

The 54-year-old Josh D'Amaro has been leading Disney's core profit-generating parks business since 2020.

If the appointment is approved, he will succeed Bob Iger as the new CEO of Disney; Iger previously served as CEO of the world's largest entertainment company from 2005 to 2020 and returned to lead the company again in 2022.

There remains a possibility that the board could still change its course.

A Disney spokesperson said in an emailed statement, "The board has not yet selected the next CEO of the Walt Disney Company, and we will announce a decision immediately once it is made."

This appointment would also conclude Disney's three-year-long CEO search process, which has been led by Disney Board Chairman James Gorman since 2024.

According to insiders, Disney CEO Bob Iger has informed close associates that he plans to step down from the CEO role before his contract expires on December 31st and will no longer be involved in the day-to-day management of the company.
