Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has commenced its annual year-end executive reshuffle, announcing multiple promotions on its official website. Among the key appointments, Roh Tae-moon, who served as acting head of the Device eXperience (DX) Division since late March, has been officially named Co-CEO and head of the DX Division. This marks the reinstatement of Samsung’s dual-CEO leadership structure after an eight-month vacancy following the sudden passing of former Co-CEO and DX Division head Han Jong-hee in March due to a heart attack.

Following Han’s death, Roh was appointed acting head of the DX Division and chairman of the Quality Innovation Committee, assuming Han’s operational roles. However, Samsung had not immediately named successors for Han’s positions as Vice Chairman and Co-CEO until now.

The other current Co-CEO at Samsung is Jeon Young-hyun, who has led the Device Solutions (DS) Division since May 2014 and was appointed Co-CEO in November last year, overseeing the memory business. Given Samsung’s practice of appointing Co-CEOs from its major business divisions, Roh’s promotion was widely anticipated after his interim leadership of the DX Division.

Alongside Roh’s appointment, Samsung announced two additional key leadership changes to strengthen its technological capabilities: Janghyun Yoon has been named President and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the DX Division, also leading Samsung Research, while Hongkun Park, a renowned scholar in nanoscience and quantum science, has been appointed head of the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT). Yoon previously served as CEO of Samsung Ventures and held roles in software platforms within the Mobile eXperience (MX) Division. Park is currently a professor of chemistry and physics at Harvard University.
