OpenAI has announced via social media that it will release three new models this Thursday: GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna.

The company is currently expanding preview access to these models on a global scale.

This follows reports indicating that the U.S. Department of Commerce has approved the broad release of OpenAI's advanced GPT-5.6 model, after it underwent additional testing under the U.S. government's new regulatory framework for frontier artificial intelligence.

The reports, citing a person familiar with the matter, stated that following the extra testing and meetings with U.S. government officials, OpenAI is anticipated to launch GPT-5.6 more widely this week.
