US Administration Urges Major Supermarkets to Reduce Beef Prices

The White House is reportedly pressuring leading American supermarket chains to lower the cost of beef.

According to reports, just days before the July 4th Independence Day holiday, an official from the U.S. Department of Agriculture contacted several major domestic supermarket chains with an urgent request: reduce beef prices.

Informed sources revealed that Tate Bennett, the Chief of Staff to Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, communicated with multiple retailers last week, including Wal-Mart, Kroger, and Albertsons. She inquired about their beef pricing plans ahead of the holiday weekend, when demand for burgers for outdoor barbecuing is expected to peak.

Two sources stated that during the Department's call with Wal-Mart, the nation's largest retailer indicated it had already planned to lower prices on numerous items for the summer season, including beef products. Wal-Mart implemented its price reductions in stores on June 29th and subsequently prepared a press release to announce the price cuts.

The Department of Agriculture reported Wal-Mart's plans to the White House. President Trump then claimed success on Monday, posting on social media that Wal-Mart was lowering prices "at the request of this administration." Mere minutes later, Wal-Mart issued an announcement stating it would reduce prices on thousands of items to benefit consumers.

Wal-Mart stated that the category with the most significant price drop was ground beef, with reductions of up to 12%. In his post, President Trump called on other retailers to follow Wal-Mart's lead.

A White House spokesperson stated that Wal-Mart's price reductions were made possible by several Trump administration initiatives: streamlining regulations, cutting taxes, and increasing domestic food production. He said the White House maintains ongoing communication with retailers to ensure that cost savings from repealing Biden-era environmental regulations on refrigerants are fully passed on to consumers as lower prices.
