According to Woofun AI, the Trump administration is planning to promote the adoption of dollar-backed stablecoins in overseas markets, with the core aim of reinforcing the dollar's status as the global reserve currency.
The execution mechanism of this strategy involves forming joint ventures with private companies, with coordinated efforts across multiple departments including the US Treasury, the State Department, and the US International Development Finance Corporation, aiming to expand the international use of dollar-denominated stablecoins and thereby boost demand for US Treasuries.
Notably, this move is a geopolitical response to China's digital yuan (the mBridge project) and the European Central Bank's digital euro pilot program (expected to launch in the second half of 2027).
According to Woofun AI, the relevant institutions and stablecoin companies did not respond to requests for comment.
Senior officials have long linked the development of stablecoins to maintaining the dollar's global position. In February 2025, David Sacks, the White House's point person on cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence, noted that stablecoins can further expand the dollar's international dominance and create trillions of dollars in additional demand. In July 2025, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized that the GENIUS Act is expected to strengthen the dollar's status as the global reserve currency and broaden access to the dollar-based economic system.
On the regulatory front, the US Treasury is accelerating implementation of the GENIUS Act. On August 17, the department issued a proposed notice of rulemaking, seeking public comment on provisions governing the issuance, offering, and sale of payment stablecoins. Bessent made clear that these rules will help solidify the dollar's status as the global reserve currency.
