Shares of Peabody Energy Corp (BTU) plunged 5.15% in pre-market trading on Thursday following the release of its disappointing third-quarter earnings report. Peabody reported a net loss of $70.1 million, or $0.58 per diluted share, for the third quarter of 2025, a stark contrast to the net income of $101.3 million, or $0.74 per share, recorded in the same period last year. It noted that revenues increased by 14% over the second quarter, driven by higher Powder River Basin shipments and increased seaborne thermal coal volumes. Additionally, metallurgical coal costs reached their lowest level in multiple years. However, these improvements were not enough to offset the overall negative sentiment surrounding the earnings miss.
