Revenue Soars 14-Fold for AI Giant, Setting Stage for Potential Record-Breaking Public Listing

Major AI company Anthropic has posted staggering financial results for the second quarter, with revenue exceeding $115 billion—a 1,361% increase year-over-year. More critically, the company achieved a positive adjusted operating profit during the same period, signaling a significant milestone in its commercial development.

According to recent filings, the developer of the Claude chatbot generated preliminary second-quarter revenue of over $115 billion, compared to $787 million in the same period last year and $4.73 billion in the first quarter of this year. The filing also noted that Anthropic recorded a positive adjusted operating profit for the quarter, though these figures may be subject to revision as deliberations continue.

Amid this rapid growth, Anthropic is competing directly with rival OpenAI to attract enterprise clients. Once considered an underdog in the AI race, the company has seen a surge in business as more professionals adopt its software, particularly the Claude Code tool, to streamline workflows like coding. As of May, Anthropic's annualized revenue had surpassed $47 billion, far exceeding earlier projections of about $10 billion for the full year 2025.

Reports from July indicated that Anthropic has been meeting with potential investors ahead of its anticipated mega IPO. The company has confidentially filed for an initial public offering and is working with Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs Group, and JPMorgan Chase to manage the process. Anthropic aims to leverage the deep capital pools of public markets to maintain its competitive edge over OpenAI and other rivals, as AI companies collectively spend hundreds of billions of dollars on developing cutting-edge models.

If it goes public this autumn, Anthropic would beat OpenAI to the market and could potentially set a new global record for the largest IPO in history. The AI race has revitalized the IPO market, with companies raising a total of $256.4 billion in equity offerings this year (excluding SPACs and other financial instruments), marking the highest annual fundraising total since 2021.
