Super Micro Computer shares surge over 16% at open after strong revenue forecast for first fiscal quarter

Shares of SUPER MICRO COMPUTER INC (SMCI) surged more than 16% at the opening bell on Wednesday, trading at $36.75. The sharp rally followed the company's announcement of a revenue guidance for the current quarter that significantly exceeded analyst expectations, further underscoring the robust demand for its server products driven by the booming artificial intelligence market.

The company disclosed on Tuesday that it expects revenue for the quarter ending in September to range between $14.5 billion and $15.5 billion, with adjusted earnings per share projected at $1.01 to $1.10. According to market data compiled by analysts, the average forecast had called for revenue of approximately $12.0 billion and earnings per share of $0.74. Notably, the company's outlook even surpassed the most optimistic Wall Street estimate of $13.3 billion in revenue.

For the fourth fiscal quarter ended June 30, SUPER MICRO COMPUTER INC reported revenue of $11.1 billion, a 93% increase year-over-year, with adjusted earnings per share of $1.70. Analysts had been expecting revenue of $11.3 billion and earnings per share of $1.59. The company's adjusted gross margin for the period was 17.6%.

Looking ahead, SUPER MICRO COMPUTER INC further projected full-year revenue for the new fiscal year starting in July to be between $65.0 billion and $72.0 billion, while the average analyst estimate stood at just $54.4 billion. Chief Executive Officer Charles Liang stated in the announcement, "Combined with our ongoing investments in technology leadership, manufacturing scale, and global compliance, we are helping customers deploy AI infrastructure more quickly and efficiently."
