On the evening of September 23, local time, Berlin Brandenburg Airport in Germany experienced a full suspension of flight takeoffs and landings for roughly 45 minutes due to a suspected drone sighting.

Airport authorities and the German Federal Police confirmed that after the drone was spotted, the north runway was the first to close around 20:00, followed by the south runway at 20:20. Restrictions were lifted at 21:05, and normal flight operations subsequently resumed.

The German Federal Police stated that no drone was actually found on the airport grounds, and its specific type has yet to be determined. Reports indicate that at least two flights were diverted as a result of the disruption.

Data shows that during the first half of this year, Berlin Brandenburg Airport recorded 28 drone sighting incidents, the highest number among German airports during that period. Seven of those incidents led to temporary interruptions in airport operations. By comparison, only eight sightings were logged at the airport and its surrounding areas for the entirety of 2025.
