The National Energy Administration released data on August 26 regarding the issuance and trading of renewable energy green electricity certificates (GECs) for July 2026.

In July 2026, the administration issued 306 million green certificates, a decrease of 17.93% month-on-month. These certificates covered 1.2249 million renewable energy power generation projects, with 179 million tradable certificates accounting for 58.56% of the total.

A total of 54.68 million certificates were traded nationwide in July, down 33.91% from the previous month. Among these, green electricity trading accounted for 25.78 million certificates, marking a 39.88% month-on-month decline. By power source, wind and solar power led in green certificate trading volume, solidifying their position as core market categories.

Green certificate issuance

Breaking down the issuance figures, the 306 million certificates issued in July corresponded to renewable energy output from June 2026, representing 274 million certificates or 89.61% of the total. All renewable energy generation types saw reduced certificate issuance volumes this month.

Trading volume and pricing trends

In terms of trading activity, the nationwide volume of separately traded green certificates reached 28.9 million in July, a 27.47% decrease month-on-month. The average price varied based on the year of electricity production: certificates for 2024 generation traded at an average of 0.83 yuan per certificate (1.84 million certificates), those for 2025 generation averaged 3.26 yuan (6.54 million certificates), and certificates for 2026 generation reached an average of 6.10 yuan (20.52 million certificates).
