According to Woofun AI, Strive (ASX: ASST) recently completed a large-scale accumulation move, purchasing 2,000 Bitcoins for approximately $169 million, significantly narrowing the gap with MARA (ASX: MARA) in the race for the ranking of publicly disclosed Bitcoin holdings.

The transaction details show that Strive completed this purchase between September 28 and October 2, marking its largest single acquisition since buying 2,500 Bitcoins on June 2, at an average purchase price of $84,422.

With this, the company's total Bitcoin holdings climbed to 29,462 coins, with a total market value of approximately $2.55 billion, though it still trails MARA, which holds 35,577 Bitcoins, by 6,115 coins.

Data compiled by Woofun AI shows that Strive's financing structure relies heavily on preferred stock sales of SATA (ASX: SATA), which contributed 61.5% of the financing amount, while the exercise of warrants brought in $56.7 million.

CEO Matt Cole disclosed preliminary third-quarter data in an 8-K filing, indicating that during the quarter the company purchased 8,137 Bitcoins at an average price of $78,885.

As of September 30, Strive held nearly $285 million in cash and cash equivalents, with a Bitcoin yield of 63.2%, and a ratio of preferred stock and debt to Bitcoin asset value of 55.3%. The company plans to raise this ratio above 60% against the backdrop of Bitcoin prices below $100,000.

The evolving competitive landscape has intensified the pressure on Strive to catch up. Japanese company Metaplanet sold 10,000 Bitcoins at the end of the third quarter, then repurchased 11,000 to demonstrate liquidity, raising its holdings to 44,000 coins and surpassing Twenty One (ASX: XXI), which holds 43,514 Bitcoins, to take the global number two spot.

This means Strive is currently 14,538 Bitcoins behind Metaplanet. With about 12 weeks remaining in the year, if Metaplanet stops purchasing, Strive would need to buy an average of approximately 1,212 Bitcoins per week to reach the 44,000-coin target by year-end, a catch-up path that is extremely challenging.

Industry leader Strategy (ASX: MSTR), led by Michael Saylor, purchased 334 Bitcoins for $28.7 million last week, bringing its total holdings to 848,000 coins, remaining far ahead.

On Monday, Bitcoin traded at approximately $86,000. Strive's ASST stock rose about 1.6% to $30.50 in the first hour of trading, while its SATA preferred stock price remained unchanged at its stated par value of $100.

In a market crowded with giants, whether Strive's aggressive accumulation strategy can reverse its ranking disadvantage still depends on future capital efficiency and market volatility.
