On October 11, the Phase II project of the Sichuan Airlines International Cargo Terminal at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport officially commenced trial operation.

As a key project for expanding and upgrading the cargo capacity of Tianfu International Airport, the launch of this project will further improve the airport's air cargo infrastructure layout, enhance international cargo support capabilities, and inject new momentum into the construction of Chengdu as an international air cargo hub.

The Phase II project of the Sichuan Airlines International Cargo Terminal features a total of 8 specialized receiving channels, adds 12,000 square meters of operational handling space, and is designed with an annual cargo and mail handling capacity of 165,000 tonnes.

The project is equipped with intelligent volume measuring instruments that use 3D vision sensor arrays to conduct high-precision three-dimensional scanning of cargo, generating point cloud models in real time and accurately calculating cargo dimensions and volume. The weighing system is linked with visual measurement data to enable simultaneous verification of piece count, weight, and dimensions, reducing the error rate to below one-thousandth, helping Tianfu International Airport elevate its smart port operations.

After the project is put into operation, it will achieve functional complementarity and efficient coordination with Phase I of the Sichuan Airlines International Cargo Terminal, forming a modern air cargo operation system characterized by "separation of inbound and outbound flows, specialized operations, and intelligent handling." This will effectively ease the international cargo support pressure on the Sichuan Airlines cargo terminal, further improve cargo and mail turnover efficiency and cargo carrying capacity, and support the capacity expansion and quality upgrade of air cargo at Tianfu International Airport.

Sichuan Airlines Logistics will fully unleash the efficiency of the Phase II international cargo terminal, leveraging the capacity resources of 10 international all-cargo routes operating at Tianfu International Airport as well as routes that will be transferred in the future. It will also coordinate with urban cargo terminals, the "one-stop service" across both airports, multi-point transportation, and cross-airport transit and other air-ground intermodal models to continuously optimize and improve the three-dimensional cargo collection and distribution system. This will comprehensively enhance Sichuan Airlines Logistics' cargo transit, distribution, and integrated support capabilities, consolidate its position as the main hub carrier, and continue to support the construction of Tianfu International Airport as an air cargo hub.

In 2025, Tianfu International Airport handled a passenger throughput of 56.687 million person-trips, strongly supporting Chengdu's consolidation of its position as China's "third aviation city" and accelerating the construction of a comprehensive gateway composite international aviation hub.

On the cargo side, with the commissioning of the Phase II Sichuan Airlines International Cargo Terminal, the hardware support capacity for air cargo in the new area has been further strengthened. Chengdu Eastern New Area will continue to support Tianfu International Airport in improving its cargo infrastructure system, expanding and densifying its international passenger and cargo route network, and perfecting the air-rail-road multimodal transport system, thereby solidifying Chengdu's function as an international air cargo hub and supporting the quality and efficiency improvement of the region's export-oriented economy.
