Data released on Tuesday shows that South Korea's central bank conducted a net sale of $13.628 billion through market intervention operations in the first quarter of this year, aiming to curb the depreciation of the Korean won.

This marks the sixth consecutive quarter in which the Bank of Korea has engaged in foreign exchange market intervention operations to sell US dollars. During the first quarter, the Korean won depreciated by 5.1% against the US dollar, while the US Dollar Index rose by 1.6% over the same period.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, the central bank's net sale of US dollars amounted to $22.467 billion, representing the largest quarterly dollar selling volume since the bank began publishing quarterly foreign exchange intervention data in the third quarter of 2019.
