Near-month natural gas futures on NYMEX drop 3.56% to close at $2.6820 per million BTU

Near-month natural gas futures for September delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange fell 9.90 cents, or 3.56%, to close at $2.6820 per million British thermal units today.

This decline marks the largest single-day drop in both dollar and percentage terms since Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The contract has decreased in two of the past three trading sessions.

The settlement price is the lowest since Tuesday, July 28, 2026. It has fallen 64.05% from the 52-week high of $7.46 recorded on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, but is up 6.30% from the 52-week low of $2.523 set on Friday, April 24, 2026.

Compared to 52 weeks ago, the price has declined by 10.90%. The contract is down 64.05% from the 2026 settlement high of $7.46 achieved on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, and up 6.30% from the 2026 settlement low of $2.523 posted on Friday, April 24, 2026.

It has dropped 82.56% from the all-time high of $15.378 reached on Tuesday, December 13, 2005. Year-to-date, the price has fallen by $1.004, or 27.24%.

All prices are based on the settlement price of the current near-month contract.
