Minimum wage levels are set to increase. On August 13, it was announced that the Guangdong Provincial People's Government has issued a notice, effective September 1, 2026, raising the monthly minimum wage and the hourly minimum wage for part-time workers across the province.

The adjustment divides the province into three categories. Guangzhou and Shenzhen fall under the first category, with Guangzhou's monthly minimum wage rising to 2,680 yuan and Shenzhen's to 2,700 yuan. The corresponding hourly minimum wage for part-time workers in these cities is set at 25.4 yuan per hour.

The second category, adjusted to 2,300 yuan per month, applies to Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, and Zhongshan, with a part-time hourly minimum wage of 21.9 yuan per hour.

The third category, adjusted to 2,040 yuan per month, applies to Shantou, Shaoguan, Heyuan, Meizhou, Huizhou, Shanwei, Jiangmen, Yangjiang, Zhanjiang, Maoming, Zhaoqing, Qingyuan, Chaozhou, Jieyang, and Yunfu, with a part-time hourly minimum wage of 20.2 yuan per hour.

According to the former Ministry of Labor and Social Security's "Minimum Wage Regulations" and the "Guangdong Province Salary Payment Regulations," the minimum wage standard is the lowest remuneration an employer must pay a worker who has performed normal labor within statutory working hours. This does not include overtime pay, allowances for high temperatures or other special working conditions, or other benefits stipulated by laws and regulations.

The minimum wage standard consists of two forms: a monthly minimum wage, applicable to full-time workers, and an hourly minimum wage, applicable to part-time workers.
